At just 14 years old, Sonia founded TechGirls, a platform aimed at bridging the gender gap in technology by empowering young girls from underserved communities to learn coding and explore careers in STEM. Inspired by her journey of learning Python and HTML during the pandemic, Sonia recognized the underrepresentation of women in tech and took action.
Starting with free coding workshops at her local community center, she expanded her initiative by collaborating with NGOs across India. She developed a curriculum, recruited volunteers, and introduced an online mentorship program that connected participants with industry professionals for guidance on STEM careers.
To further amplify her impact, Sonia launched Tech4Good, an offshoot project focused on applying coding to social causes through hackathons and app development for local charities. Sonia’s leadership, creativity, and commitment to using technology for social good not only demonstrate her passion for making a difference but also position her as a strong candidate for college admissions and scholarships.
