
The PACEY Award, which stands for Peace, Nuclear Abolition and Climate Engaged Youth, is an annual award that provides financial support and recognition to youth-led projects addressing international peace, nuclear abolition, and climate protection. The award is organized by the Basel Peace Office and Youth Fusion, and the winners are selected at the annual Intergenerational Forum on Climate, Peace and Nuclear Abolition. The PACEY Award supports innovative projects that empower youth to lead transformative actions in these fields and aims to foster dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange between generations .
The PACEY Award was launched in 2020 by the Basel Peace Office to empower youth activists and their initiatives in advancing peace, advocating for nuclear disarmament, and combatting climate change. The award is backed by the belief that youth are key agents of change and seeks to amplify their efforts in addressing these pressing global challenges. The award is conferred annually in conjunction with the Basel Peace Forum and the Basel Intergenerational Forum on Climate, Peace and Nuclear Abolition, and winners are selected by a jury of representatives from the Basel Peace Office, Youth Fusion, and the Basel Kanton .
The PACEY Award provides a platform for youth-driven projects that focus on critical issues such as carbon emission reduction, renewable energy promotion, conflict resolution, nuclear weapons abolition, and support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Projects that demonstrate the interconnectedness of peace, climate, and nuclear disarmament are given priority, highlighting the essential need to address these issues collectively for a sustainable and peaceful future. Each year, the PACEY Award selects three outstanding projects, with each recipient receiving €5000 in prize money. This financial support is generously provided by partners such as the Basel Kanton and the Evangelical Church of Basel. Empowering Youth for Climate Action and Peace, a project of Effective Thesis to help students choose a thesis topic that could make positive impact for the world in the areas of climate change and peace, and to provide thesis coaching once the thesis topic has been chosen.
